Language Schools New Zealand Celebrates Milestone

Guy Hughes and the team at LSNZ have recently celebrated 20 years of offering English language courses to international students.

Following an overseas experience teaching English and studying Japanese, Guy arrived in Queenstown and decided to make it his home.  He immediately realised with all the wonderful activities and tourism opportunities that it really needed an English language school.

From a rented space and a one-man operation in April 1993, to its location now on the top of O’Connells Shopping Centre, one of the most prominent buildings in Queenstown, the school has come a long way.

Guy states “Since 1993 we have affected thousands of lives; students, host families, staff etc.  It’s such a positive industry, and we really connect people with people.  The recurring theme when students graduate is that students learned much more than just English while at our school.”

As well as the language school, Guy opened a Montessori kindergarten in 2010, but 25 years on he is still at the language school every Monday to welcome the new students, and every Friday to send the graduates on their journey.

A key hope is that their journey has been as amazing as his own, as he states he has never for a day regretted the decision to make Queenstown his home. “My thanks go to all English New Zealand colleagues for their support, expertise, and tireless lobbying on our behalf. Also, to Cleve Brown and other COMBO school buddies for 20 years of friendship, collaboration, and the sharing of ideas. I wonder what the next 25 years will bring.”
