NZLC

A founding member of English New Zealand and established since 1984, NZLC is one of the largest ESL schools in New Zealand offering a wide range of quality English courses with a diverse nationality mix of students. We are located in New Zealand’s largest city  — Auckland.

NZLC has been elevated to the ST Super Star Hall of Fame after winning the ST Star English Language School in the Southern Hemisphere award for five consecutive years (2014 – 2018). Five times is the maximum amount any one organisation can win a singular category in the ST Star Awards.

Facilities and activities available at NZLC

NZLC offers variety of specials and packages such as Demi Pair Placement and an English + Barista course.

Our Academic and Student Services team will look after you and help you with course choices, opening a bank account, and first language support.

Once you arrive at NZLC, we will issue you a Student ID card which can give you various discounts. We can show you the cheapest way to buy your public transportation card.

NZLC is an NZQA Category 1 School (this allows students studying full time at our school to work up to 20 hours per week if they are enrolled in a course of 14 weeks or more).

NZLC offers a variety of cultural, sporting and sightseeing activities including beach picnics, SUP boarding, Haka dance lessons, museum visits and more! These take place after the morning timetable and are a great way for students to make friends from people all over the world while practising English.

Weekend trips to popular destinations such as the Coromandel, Rotorua, Bay of Islands and Hobbiton are scheduled every week giving students the opportunity to visit other parts of New Zealand and meet other international students outside of NZLC.

Through our Corporate Social Responsibility programme, both campuses organise regular volunteer activities such as tree planting and beach clean-ups, as well as fundraisers and events for annual observances (e.g. Earth Month).

NZLC has a wide range of quality English programmes including General EnglishBusiness English, Academic Courses (IELTS and Cambridge Exam Preparation), and English Teacher Training courses (CELTATESOLTECSOL). NZLC also specialises in study tour groups and young learner programmes for 13-17 year olds.

NZLC offers a variety of optional electives from 1.45pm to 2.45pm. After the morning timetable you can choose from: Job & CV Workshops to help eligible students prepare for part-time employment; Study Support to focus on your study goals; Pronunciation & Power Speaking to improve your skills and confidence; TOEIC preparation; and News Club to help you understand articles and TV programmes, and give you the confidence to discuss and write about current events.

The style of teaching and classroom environment

Our teaching philosophy is that the connection between what we do in class and what happens outside of the class needs to be seamless. Students do not practise life in the classroom; the classroom is life.

We combine a communicative and functional approach – skills development is put into practice to build confidence. You will use authentic materials and participate in activities and project work, using your English in real life situations.

Our professional and qualified teachers and friendly and supportive student services team are happy to offer advice, support and guidance to help all NZLC students meet their English goals! We conduct regular surveys so we know how best to support our students.

98% of our graduates said “YES”:
“I would recommend NZLC to my family/friends” and “NZLC helped me to achieve my goals” (2019)

Accommodation options for international students

Students can choose from a Kiwi homestay experience or one of our convenient city accommodation options.

Staying with a friendly and caring Kiwi host family is one of the best ways to experience the Kiwi culture and at the same time practise English outside the classroom. Regular quality checks are conducted by our NZLC Accommodation Department to ensure students will be comfortable. Homestay half board includes breakfast and dinner during weekdays and 3 meals on weekends (twin share/full board/special meal request optional).

Our accommodation department is happy to offer advice when you look for a place to live in the city or stay on weekend trips.

A rich student experience

Located right by the beautiful Viaduct Harbour in downtown Auckland, NZLC is just footsteps away from restaurants, bars and cafes. Shopping, markets and the Britomart train station are also just a short walk away from the school.

Enquire now about NZLC

We are Laura and Julieth, we are siblings from Colombia and our adventure in New Zealand started 9 months ago.  So far we have been living a great deal of experiences that surely we will never forget. We came here with the aim of improving our knowledge in English. We chose NZLC to achieve it and we still believing that it was one of the best choices we have made. Initially, we studied general English, where our classes gave us more confident with the language, then we moved to IELTS preparation course which enabled us to gain an academic English knowledge. Finally, we decided to take Cambridge Course that for us have been one of the most valuable courses that we have ever taken. The course taught us English in a more natural way.
We are very pleased with all the teachers, staff and with the school to give us the opportunity to make friends from different nationalities.
