Teacher Training (TESOL) courses are offered by a number of English New Zealand schools.
Successful completion of any of these courses does not guarantee you’ll have met the minimum qualification profile required for employment at an English New Zealand school.
Courses offered by members vary, but many include the following internationally recognised Cambridge English qualifications :
Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults)
A 4-week course for students with native speaker level competence in English who want to begin a career teaching English or want to up-skill and get a recognised qualification in this area.
For qualified and experienced English language teachers with native speaker competence in English who want to further develop their teaching skills.
For non-native speakers, overseas teachers and overseas students who want to develop their teaching and language skills.
Ara offers a 5-week Teacher Training Certificate. The course focuses on the principles of communicative language teaching and involves practical teaching sessions. Trainees should be at an upper-intermediate level of English to enrol in this course.
Cambridge CELTA courses are also offered at Ara, both face-to-face and online/blended.

Auckland English Academy's 10-week TESOL instructor course is designed for teachers who want to teach English to children aged 3 to 13 years.

The 8 week AIS CertTESOL course consists of a preliminary two-week self-directed study of basic linguistic concepts followed by six weeks of classroom-based instruction and practice.

Dominion English School Auckland offers a 4 week TECSOL teacher training programme that prepares teachers for teaching English at kindergarten and primary schools. The course includes a practicum at a New Zealand primary school. The TECSOL course is a pre-requisite for the J-Shine approved Japanese Primary Teacher Certification Programme. The J-Shine course takes 2 weeks and successful candidates can attain a licence to become a Japanese Teacher of English (JTE) in Japan.

Aimed at speakers of other languages, this Cambridge TKT Certificate course is for those who wish to gain a qualification to teach English. Modules covered include language and background to language learning and teaching, lesson planning and the use of resources for language teaching, and managing the teaching and learning process.
It is a 4 week course with set starting dates and exams on the last Saturday.

Languages International is New Zealand's longest-established private ESOL teacher training institution and since 1988 they have trained more than 1,500 native speaker and non-native speaker teachers. Courses offered are:
NZLC offers a variety of Teacher Training courses and has been training native and non-native English speakers to become professional English teachers for the past 20 years. NZLC Auckland is a University of Cambridge accredited CELTA training centre.
NZLC is also a University of Cambridge TKT test centre, and our TESOL and TECSOL course culminates with the respective TKT exam dates.
