New Horizon College is located in two cities: Napier, a beautiful seaside city with a warm Mediterranean-style climate, and Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand.  The schools are in the centre of both cities, close to cafés and tourist attractions. Napier's major tourist attraction is the Art Deco city itself, which people from all over the world come to see, as the architecture is strikingly different from any other city.  Throughout the year there are many opportunities for outdoor activities, with access to beaches, native forests and mountains.  The area surrounding Napier, Hawke’s Bay, is home to many award-winning wineries.

Auckland is the main business and cultural centre, not just of New Zealand, but of the South Pacific.  Known as the City of Sails, Auckland is surrounded by water; the beaches have lots of space and the water is crystal clear. In the Mercer Consulting 2014 international survey, Auckland was ranked third in the world for its quality of living.

In both campuses our teachers take a keen interest in all students and provide a stimulating learning experience.  Students who enjoy interacting with their teacher and other students in a warm, friendly class atmosphere will like learning English at New Horizon College.

Our teaching is based on modern communicative methods of learning English and our qualified and experienced teachers encourage all the students to be actively involved in the class activities.

We specialise in Working Holiday preparation to get students for ready for job-seeking and work in New Zealand.  New Horizon College is a Category 1 school, which means that students can work for up to 20 hours per week as long as they enrol on a course of at least 14 weeks.

In Napier our courses feature:

  • the 40+ English & Activities course, for older students who want a serious language course, but also time to relax and go on excursions with fellows of their age group.
  • Cambridge FCE, CAE and IELTS exam preparation: ideal for those wanting to use English for work, study, or professional purposes.
  • regular activity programme to help our students make the most of their Napier experience.  Students can try kayaking, bush walking, wine tasting, beach volleyball, farm and museum visits, and much more.
  • Part-time work rights: students can work for up to 20 hours per day as long as they enrol on a course of at least 14 weeks.
  • Our student lounge is the hub of school social life, where we hold ceremonies for graduating students, birthday celebrations and international lunches.  Outside class time students can relax there and chat with their classmates to practise their English or play table tennis or billiards.
  • Our self-study centre is open every day after school, and students can book mini-lessons with a teacher to get personal assistance with language issues.

In Auckland our courses feature:

  • Evening English: classes from 5.30pm to 9.30pm.  This timetable is ideal for students who want free time during the day to work or to sightsee.
  • Students who prefer a daytime course are welcome to enrol at our partner school Auckland English Academy, also a member of English New Zealand.
  • Part-time work rights: students can work for up to 20 hours per day as long as they enrol on a course of at least 14 weeks.

IELTS exam preparation: ideal for those wanting to use English for work, study, or professional purposes.

In both cities we offer homestay accommodation.  Staying with one of our carefully chosen homestays will give plenty of conversation opportunities.  Students will have two meals a day provided on school days. Lunch will be provided by the homestays on weekends and public holidays. Students will have a room of their own and will be able to join in normal family life and activities with the homestay.
