EIT’s Napier campus is situated in Taradale, a town 10km south of Napier city, and approximately 10km from Hastings. Napier and Hastings jointly form the fifth largest urban area in New Zealand.
Napier and the Hawke's Bay region offers an excellent lifestyle and plenty of sunshine. There are many different outdoor activities on offer - native bush walks, horse riding, rock climbing, kayaking, tramping, and cycling. The Hawke’s Bay offers over 200km of bike trails that run up and down the coast and connect some of the best wineries in New Zealand. Napier is home to the National Aquarium of New Zealand, and there are a number of beaches nearby for swimming and surfing. Both Napier and Hastings have a wonderful selection of cafes, restaurants, art galleries, shops, and local markets.
Learning English should be fun. Our tutors encourage a collaborative style of teaching and learning through team building, getting to know their teachers and each other, and sharing experiences. At EIT our motto is ‘Live the Language’. We facilitate many activities in the community to encourage our students to use the world outside to practise and improve their work inside the classroom. Our English Language Centre offers the latest technology to support the learning journey, including our language laboratory with large flat-screen TVs, video cameras, voice recorders, and up-to-date computers and software.
EIT prides itself on its teaching staff. English Language teachers at EIT are engaging and enthusiastic, they are highly qualified, and have all taught in a variety of overseas countries. They are known for being friendly and warm, and for creating a comfortable learning space for students to work in. The smaller class sizes at EIT also mean greater personal attention.
Here at EIT we believe our experiences outside of the classroom enhance learning inside the classroom. We create opportunities for our students to explore the beautiful region we live in and practise their English with native speakers. In addition the English Language Centre escorts a group of students to Rotorua for an eco-adventure in native New Zealand forest. This provides students with the opportunity to visit a wonderful part of the country while also challenging themselves personally.
EIT offers English courses to meet the needs of all levels and abilities. For those wanting a pathway to an academic programme, NZCEL courses are available for the beginner right through to the advanced. EIT’s English Language Centre is an accredited IELTS Examination Centre and offers IELTS preparation classes to familiarise you with the test format and improve your English level before the test. For those who simply want to improve their English our English Language Training Scheme is a flexible option to suit everyone.
We recommend students coming to the Hawke’s Bay stay with one of our wonderful homestay families. You will have your own room, eat meals with the family, and have the opportunity to practise your English with native speakers. Living with a homestay family offers students with the ultimate kiwi experience. Some students go on to live in shared accommodation once they have become settled in New Zealand.
EIT’s Napier campus is spacious with many trees and green spaces. We have many student facilities on campus including two wonderful cafes and a student restaurant where our Hospitality students prepare and present a range of delicious dishes. We have a library that is both extensive and welcoming, with helpful staff on hand to ensure you access all the learning facilities you need to complete your study. When you are not on campus you can explore all that the Hawke’s Bay region has to offer. The beach, forests, rivers, and vineyards are right here on our doorstep and the Hawke’s Bay has a number of festivals and events throughout the year. There really is something for everyone!
